چکیده
Carbonation-induced corrosion is one of the main causes degradation reinforced concrete (RC) structures exposed outdoor in urban environment. To prevent steel corrosion, a durability design, that considers both initiation and propagation time, fundamental importance. At this aim, resistance to carbonation rate exposure environment need be known. This paper reports coefficient 7-day cured RC specimens made with different binders Milan unsheltered conditions. Corrosion rates laboratory conditions temperatures relative humidities are also reported. Experimental data were used evaluate service life condition. Portland cement exhibited lowest rate, while 30% limestone 70% ground granulated blast furnace slag highest.

Estimating Residual Service Life of Deteriorated Reinforced Concrete Structures
Evaluating present condition of reinforced concrete (RC) structures is necessary for planning future maintenance and estimating residual service life of structures. A ten point (0-9) condition rating system is proposed for obtaining present condition of RC structures based on the measured values of concrete cover, carbonation depth and chloride concentration at rebar depth through in-situ tests...
متن کاملTowards practical carbonation prediction and modelling for service life design of reinforced concrete structures
Amongst the scientific community, the interest on durability of concrete structures has been high for quite a long time of over 40 years. Of the various causes of degradation of concrete structures, corrosion is the most widespread durability problem and carbonation is one of the two causes of steel reinforcement corrosion. While much scientific understanding has been gained from the numerous c...
متن کاملPrediction of Service Life in Concrete Structures based on Diffusion Model in a Marine Environment using Mesh Free, FEM and FDM Approaches
Chloride-induced corrosion is a key factor in the premature corrosion of concrete structures exposed to a marine environment. Fick's second law of diffusion is the dominant equation to model diffusion of chloride ions. This equation is traditionally solved by Finite Element Method (FEM) and Finite Difference Method (FDM). Although these methods are robust and efficient, they may face some numer...
متن کاملInfluence of Blended Cements with Calcareous Fly Ash on Chloride Ion Migration and Carbonation Resistance of Concrete for Durable Structures
The objective of this paper is to examine the possible use of new blended cements containing calcareous fly ash in structural concrete, potentially adequate for structural elements of nuclear power plants. The investigation included five new cements made with different contents of non-clinker constituents: calcareous fly ash, siliceous fly ash, ground granulated blastfurnace slag, and a referen...
متن کاملHigh Performance Reinforced Concrete Beams made with Sandstone Reactive Aggregates
An investigation on the flexural behaviour of reinforced high performance concrete (HPC) has been conducted. Crushed sandstone known as reactive aggregate was used for both fine and coarse aggregates. In addition, mineral admixtures such as silica fume and fly ash combined with superplasticiser was used. The beams were made with concrete having compressive strength in the range of 74 88 N/mm 2 ...
